Skyhawk Student Leaders in Action: Highlights for SY 2025-2026
School Information
Throughout the school year, the Student Council Officers demonstrated dedication and commitment in serving the students and supporting school activities. Their journey began with the Selection of Student Council Officers on September 29, 2025, followed by the Induction and Announcement of Newly Elected Officers on October 6, 2025, officially welcoming the new student leaders for the school year.
During Pink October: Breast Cancer Awareness Month, the Student Council Officers organized and supported meaningful activities that promoted awareness and community involvement. Events included a Poster-Making Contest for students, Health Awareness Talks conducted by Eagle Butte IHS personnel for Grades 6–12, and a Handprint Activity symbolizing support and solidarity for breast cancer patients. The officers also extended their support during the school’s Halloween activities, helping create a fun and engaging experience for students.
In December 2025, the Student Council Officers assisted in facilitating the school’s Christmas Concert, helping ensure the success of one of Takini School’s most celebrated events of the year.
The officers also had opportunities to strengthen their leadership skills outside the school through participation in the SDEEC State Capitol Day on January 14, 2026, in Pierre, South Dakota. Accompanied by their advisers, students participated in capacity-building sessions, a scavenger hunt, a Capitol tour, lunch at Pierre Indian School, and attended the State of the Tribe Address. This experience allowed students to develop leadership, teamwork, and civic engagement skills while representing Takini School.
To support future student activities and conferences, the Student Council Officers organized fundraising efforts including a Valentine’s Fundraising Activity in February 2026 and a Food Sale Fundraiser for the LNI Conference on March 30, 2026.
One of the major highlights of the school year was the participation of six Student Council Officers in the LNI Student Council Conference held from March 31 to April 2, 2026, at the Best Western Ramkota Hotel. The conference provided valuable leadership experiences, networking opportunities, and learning sessions that further inspired the students as young leaders.
Alongside these accomplishments were their supportive advisers, Ms. Jellie Mae Toring and Ms. Sheila Flores, whose guidance and encouragement helped empower the officers throughout the school year. Their mentorship played an important role in helping students grow into responsible, confident, and service-oriented leaders.
As SY 2025–2026 comes to a close, Takini School proudly recognizes and thanks the Student Council Officers and their advisers for their dedication, leadership, and service. Their hard work and commitment have made a positive impact on the school community and continue to inspire future Skyhawk leaders.
