Takini School stands as a symbol of resilience, culture, and community on the Cheyenne River Sioux Reservation. The building was completed in 1989, and in 1992, Takini School proudly opened its doors to students for the very first time. Since then, it has continued to grow as a place of learning, leadership, and Lakota identity.

The word Takini means “to survive” in Lakota. Guided by this meaning, Takini School was established to provide not only academic education but also a foundation rooted in Lakota language, traditions, and values.

Over the years, Takini has served as more than a school. It has become a gathering place for students, families, and community members, working together to nurture the next generation. Takini School continues its mission to empower students to succeed academically, embrace their cultural heritage, and contribute to the future of the Cheyenne River Sioux Tribe and beyond.

Vision Statement

Takini School fosters a unified and nurturing community where students, families, and staff work together to honor our spiritual and cultural heritage. Through collaboration and a supportive environment, we empower confident learners to pursue their dreams and create meaningful futures.

Mission Statement

Takini School is committed to equip all learners with the knowledge, skills, and values needed to navigate the challenges and opportunities of the 21st century while embracing and preserving the cultural identity of our community.
